- How to make a PU Foam FursuitHead-

1. Which is the right foam?
PU, also known as Polyurethane or fitting foam glue can be bought in building center or in a do-it-yourself store. But look out that you buy the right one it must be:
-CUTABLE when dried out
-NOT HARMFUL to health when dried out
-A SPRAY WITH PIPE!
If you aren't sure if its cutable or not harmful to health or whatever, ask in the store before you buy it! Also look carefully at the manual on the spray, if you want to use the spray more than just one time, you MUST BUY A PU-PURIFIER!!! To clean the pipe on the spray, because the dried foam will block the pipe, this purifier will be a highly-acidly stuff so be carefully!! The better way to work with the foam, is to buy:
-One Big Spray
-One Small Spray
Take the big spray for the groundhead form and the small spray for additional work on the foam-form. But be sure that you don't wait to long using one of the sprays, because the foam also dries in the pipe of the spray!

2. How to..?
At first measure the size of your head off, take two carton-bands and build a little helmet around your head with these, like it is shown in the picture. Than blow a balloon INSIDE it up. Put it on the ground, if you work with the PU foam be sure that you make it outside, because it is very sticky stuff and it will destroy your furniture! Be also sure that you are working on a ground with old newspaper, it will stick on the foam later but you can easily cut the paper off. Be also sure that the back of the head is on the ground, we are using a balloon so we can't put it on the ground where the jaw would be.
Now take the BIG SPRAY and go over the balloon-form with the foam, be sure that you don't take too much, the foam looks small before but it "grows" meanwhile drying. You should make the ground head using the first BIG SPRAY, after that WAIT UNITL THE FOAM DRIED!!! because if you add some more "layers" of foam now it will fall off your ballon, because it is to heavy! You won't be able to use this spray again after the head is dried out, because also the foam inside the spray-pipe will be dried and it will block it, so if you want to do more ground heads to it all in one step!

BE SURE THAT YOU DON'T TOUCH THE WET FOAM! IT WILL STICK ON YOUR SKIN FOREVER!!! BE SURE THAT YOU READ THE MANUAL OF THE PU FOAM CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU USE IT!

3. Get the right form...
If the ballon not already bursted, kill it now ;) than take the dried out foam helmet of and put it on a new ground with newspaper. Now take the new SMALL SPRAY and give the back of the head its right form (this is where the balloon layed on the ground before) than you can add also a form to the front of the head, a snout, beak, nose ground form whatever, if you want to have stiff small ears you can also add some little foam hills for these, but you shouldn't make bigger ears that way, because they will fall off your head. Be sure that you added all forms to your head and that you filled all holes in your head-form before you put the spray away, as already said, dried once in the pipe of the spray you must throw it away!!
BE SURE THAT ALL IS DRIED OUT WELL!!! Before you start to carve your head, you can also pull the carton base of your head outside the foam, but it is easy to carve the eye holes inside the carton so you can also leave it there.
