- Drawing with MovementLines-

1. The Idea
As far as I can tell you, is the most difficult part in drawing that one where you try to get that thing out of your mind on to the paper! To "catch" a thought or a idea right on a piece of paper without a reference pic this tutorial can help you (a bit hopefully ^_^)
So what was my idea? I had a dog-like creature in mind standing on heavy feet with big paws, it should have a long neck and a slender body, now let's get that thing done!

2. The MovementLines
I just can tell you how I capture my ideas in sketches, so the method I use is called Movment Lines, you sketch a few lines to catch the general movement of your picture, there are also a lot other methodes how you could sketch down your ground-idea of the picture, this is just one method of these. The first pic shows the movement method and I also put a redline over the second pic to show you another method, were you sketch a creature using geometrical forms.
.

3. Thinking of "Volumes"
If you are happy with your general movement and pose you can start to add some more details of your creature or object, you should start to think in volumes in this point. Our creature should get some "deep" look and no flat look, I added some shadows on the second pic here to show you what I mean.

4. The Details
You can start to add some final details now, hair, ears, eyes, paws, etc. You can push your movement and dynamic idea, sepcially with hair, try to draw hair fitting to the general movement, you will see that creates some nice effects!

5. The Final Touch
If you think that you are on the right way, it is time for the final touch, you can add some little shadings, more hair details, a expression, clothing or whatever, the more shadings and details you add the more easier it will be to color and ink your drawing later! Because you will not keep all the details in your mind until you finish the coloring of your picture!

You can see all steps together here, animated.
